USA: WH Sec Psaki hits back at reporter over Texas abortion ban questioning

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki hit back at a male reporter’s questioning of US President Biden’s position on women’s reproductive rights during a press conference held in Washington DC, on Thursday.

The exchange happened in the light of a Supreme Court ruling which on Wednesday turned down an appeal made by abortion providers and pro-choice groups, ultimately leading to a near-total ban on abortions in the state of Texas, a move which Biden warned would unleash “unconstitutional chaos.”

Upon being asked by the male reporter as to who Biden regarded as the party responsible for looking out for unborn children, Psaki replied back: “He believes it’s up to a woman to make those decisions and up to a woman to make those decisions with her doctor.”

“I know you’ve never faced those choices, nor have you ever been pregnant, but for women out there who have faced those choices, this is an incredibly difficult thing,” added Psaki.

Following a Supreme Court ruling from 1973, commonly known as the Roe v Wade case, abortions became legal in the US.
