Patients began to receive booster shots of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine in Maracaibo on Monday.
“Well, it has been shown in several studies that we need a booster, that the booster is applied at six months, which is when the immune response to COVID starts to decrease,” explained Ronald Romero, the Director of Health at the Mayor’s Office of Maracaibo.
In a tweet published on Monday, Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro announced the launch of the country’s COVID-19 booster vaccination campaign.
“What we want to do is to raise the immune response of all patients again, of all people,” said Romero.
According to data compiled by the World Health Organization from December 23 2021, over 18,394,000 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine against COVID-19 in the country with a population of over 28 million.
