‘Video of Pro-Palestine Activists Climbing on War Memorial Sparks Government Reaction’.

Footage shared online shows pro-Palestinian activists climbing on top of the Royal Artillery Memorial at Hyde Park on Wednesday.

The footage received fierce backlash online, after it was revealed no protesters were arrested.

The Metropolitian Police released a statement explaining why they responded the way they did.

They said: “We know some online have asked why the protesters were not arrested.”

““There is no law explicitly making it illegal to climb on a memorial so officers cannot automatically arrest, but they can intervene and make it clear the behaviour isn’t acceptable.

“The videos shared online show them doing that.”

Newly appointed Home Secretary James Cleverly has vowed to change the law to offer police new powers to protect war memorials.

Cleverly, who served as an officer in the Royal
Artillery, has described the treatment of his regiment’s memorial as “distasteful”.

Protests took place outside Parliament earlier on Wednesday after MPs voted overwhelmingly against a ceasefire in Gaza.
