A former Afghan soldier trained by NATO described his new life in Maymana, province of Faryab, on Friday, after locals were forbidden to flee Afghanistan.

With the country now fully in control of the Taliban, former Special Forces officer Mohammad Nasim Mughul, currently jobless, was seen schooling his children at home and recounting his days as a soldier.

“We have no destiny now,” Mugul said. “The most I concern that is about my kids, as we studied, we got education, we have invested in ourselves but we have no destiny now, I am busy with homework now, if this government continue like this, all remain hopeless,” the former soldier added.

“I participated in many duties, such as the duties in Tagaw, Almar, and Qaisar. I did duties in the mentioned districts, also inside Faryab province, and there were strong operations, or when our policemen and other organs needed help, they would ask for help from the Special forces,” he recounted while showing his soldier certificate and pictures of him in the battlefield.

The Taliban have banned any Afghans from leaving the country, as the last evacuation flights leave Kabul.

“I never wanted the fall of the country, when our province fell recently, the prisoners were released, and when the Taliban came to the city, the latest personnel who gave up was our Special Forces. As everyone gave up, we gave up also, and we had nothing to do.”

Thousands of people have been trying to flee Afghanistan since the Taliban seizure on August 15.

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Mohammad Nasim Mughul, Former Special Forces officer (Dari): “I was interested in the military. When I finished my 12 years of school, I joined the military. We studied academy of Special Forces blocs in the capital of Kabul. I worked in Kapisa province for three years and I was there with governor ‘Khalid Agha.’

SOT, Mohammad Nasim Mughul, Former Special Forces officer (Dari): “I was shifted to the National Directorate of Security where I worked for two years at the national bloc of 502, and in CRU of Faryab province, then after that I worked in the passport office. Then recently I joined the Special Forces. Here I studied other lectures for six months. We studied about the blocs of the special forces. I came here and worked with the special forces for two or three years, and I was deputy for the Special Forces blocs.”

SOT, Mohammad Nasim Mughul, Former Special Forces officer (Dari): “The Special Forces were an operational bloc. All its personnel, such as office personnel and other personnel worked there. I participated in a lot of duties such as the duties in Tagaw, Almar, and Qaisar. I did duties in the mentioned districts, also inside Faryab province, and there were strong operations, or when our policemen and other organs needed help, they would ask for help from the Special Forces, and we would help.”

SOT, Mohammad Nasim Mughul, Former Special Forces officer (Dari): “I never wanted the fall of the country, when our province fell recently, the prisoners were released, and when the Taliban came to the city, the latest personnel who gave up was our Special Forces, as everyone gave up, we gave up also, and we had nothing to do. We had been handed out all the equipment to the Islamic Emirate when they come to our bloc.”

SOT, Mohammad Nasim Mughul, Former Special Forces officer (Dari): “We have no destiny now, currently the government has fallen. I demand from the Islamic Emirate to stablise their government as soon as possible, they must select, if they have, a president or defense ministry, and create an all-involved government until all can participate in this government. All of us must shake hands with each other and build our country by ourselves, up to when the foreigners should be in our country, until the foreigner want us to work, we must gather and rebuild our country, it must be a republic president, it must be an Islamic government, and all must be participants.”

SOT, Mohammad Nasim Mughul, Former Special Forces officer (Dari): “The biggest concern I have are my children. We studied, we got an education, we have invested on ourselves, but we have no destiny now. Now I am busy with homework. If this government continues like this, all remains hopeless, or if the government employees don’t go back to work, the future of the country will be critical. We have concerns about the future of our kids, how it will be solved without any destiny or unemployment. Until then, we must be at home, until our kids remain without education. Currently, the universities ad schools are closed, and we are concerned about our kids.”
