Well-wishers have gathered on a beach in Sydney to bid a fond farewell to the last ever Qantas Boeing 747.

It took off to Los Angeles on its final flight before being stripped for spares in the nearby Mojave Desert.

The jumbo jet’s retirement was brought forward by six months due to the downturn in air travel caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
