'Without culture, no future' - Romans decry privatisation of heritage ahead of G20 culture summit

Culture and entertainment sector workers rallied in front of the Roman Colosseum on Thursday to decry the precarious working conditions and low pay. The protest took place just as the G20 summit welcomed ministers of culture at the Colosseum.

“Some payments are below the poverty line. Far below. We are talking about three or four Euros per hour. It is, unfortunately, a reality that nobody wants to talk about,” said member of the USB trade union Enzo Micolli.

The G20 Culture Ministers’ meeting will centre around digital transition in the sector, the establishment of common standards in training culture workers, climate change and its impact on the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the member states.

Because the minister uses it as an instrument to enhance his image and his people. The ministry must once again have the ability to protect Italian cultural heritage assets, which are extraordinary in quality and quantity, and make it a priority. However, it works to outperform the private sector.”
