Woman adopts opossum found in dead mother's pouch

My name is Brenda and I am Leona Lee’s mama.  A nice gentleman found Leona’s mom that had been hit by a car, dead in front of his house. He happened to check the pouch and there were six babies in there with their eyes closed. He reached out to some people that he knew, and finally, a rehabber friend found me and asked if I would take them. I was at work and I did think about it all day and decided that I had to help them out.

My boyfriend also was quick to say, if you don’t help those babies, nobody will and they’ll die. So we both decided that this was happening again. In the group, there were six babies with their eyes closed and their fur had barely started to come in. One baby passed away the same night. Eventually, Leona’s mom released her siblings but could not release her as she had become very attached to people. Now, Leona spends her time at home cuddling with her human family, eating her favorite snacks, and going on walks with her mom.
