Woman creates sanctuary just to save cow sold to farmer

I first met Ellie Mae when she was four months old and I was assigned to train her for my intro to Animal Science course at the University of Connecticut. She was auctioned off at the end of the course and a local farmer purchased her. I was able to visit her at this farm for the next three years. 

And when I found out that Ellie Mae was pregnant, I knew I had to do something to save Ellie and her calf from an awful future.  So Ellie Mae Farm Sanctuary was born. Soon after her calf Zee was born, we were able to convince the farmer to surrender them to us and brought them home to live out the rest of their natural lives in the sanctuary.

Ellie Mae is now safe and she’s happy. She’s got plenty of area to roam and green pastures to graze on. She is with her baby for the rest of their natural lives. She’ll be with her best friend Blackberry, and she will meet so many other animals. She will never have to worry about fresh clean water to drink or food to eat. She’ll always be protected by us and from other humans that might want to cause her harm. She’ll never have to endure any of those hard things that most cows have to endure some time in their lifetime. She will never have to give birth to any other babies or be artificially inseminated and be pregnant again. She’s enjoying the rest of her life here in the sanctuary.
