Woman helps injured bald eagle fly again

We got a call about an injured bald eagle laying on the side of the road in Missoula, Montana. The gentleman who came across the eagle had to go to work, so he ended up covering up the bird with some newspaper that he had in his vehicle just to help keep him warm.

Our friends at Raptor View Research Institute were able to safely capture the bird and make it to the veterinary clinic.The x-rays were pretty much inconclusive, as far as trauma goes. We set him up in our ICU. At that point, all we could do was wait and see what happened. The next morning, I tentatively opened the door to the treatment room thinking I was going to find a dead eagle. 

But to my surprise, he was actually standing. After we got blood work results back and saw that he had a high white blood cell count, we decided to start antibiotics at that point. The bird continued to recover and was on antibiotics for a month. And then the time came for the eagle to soar again.

It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to work with these birds and to help them get back up into the skies, where they belong.
