Yemen: Thousands of brides and grooms come together for nation's largest mass wedding

Thousands of almost married couples gathered outside the Al-Saleh Mosque in Sanaa on Thursday to participate in the largest mass wedding in the country’s history.

Grooms were seen wearing extravagant garments and doing traditional dances at the mass wedding.

The crowd was addressed by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi leader of the Houthi government.

While the alleged 7,200 participants is the largest in the country’s history, the largest mass wedding ever took place in 2009 in South Korea where 20,000 couples were married by the controversial Unification Church leader Sun Myung Moon.

“Today, we congratulate us first and all the grooms and the Yemeni people as a whole on this great and blessed social occasion, the collective wedding, which is the largest and most massive so far, with 7,200 grooms and brides,” stated groom to be wed Abbas Jahaf.
