I also highly recommend coming up with as many riffs and little "melodies" as you can... that will open the doors to eventually being able to improvise freely on a piece of odd meter music like this... The track is in E minor and is based on a riff which contains notes from the E minor blues scale and Phrygian Mode - as well as some passing notes.
