1911 Reliability

Is the 1911 unreliable? Or is it reliable enough? Background Info: Ran my 1911 (nothing special, an Armscor 1911 GI) through a Handgun Operator 2 class. I shot 500 rounds of .45 ACP (Armscor 230 grain FMJ factory ammo) through the class. I encountered some minor malfunctions (I was able to fix them with a simple "tap, rack" malfunction clearance). Towards 400+ rounds of shooting, I started getting blisters/cuts on the web of my shooting hand and the part of my middle finger that touches the trigger guard. This is attributed to the high grip technique I use, coupled with my large hands, recoil of the factory .45 ACP ammo, and the edges of 1911 digging into my hand. I admit, the 1911 is not a perfect gun. It suffered minor malfunctions that more modern handguns wouldn't have (ex. magazine feeding issues, slide stop operator error). My hand also did get a beating from handling the gun through the class (Understandable, considering going through 500 rounds of .45 ACP in one day. A refined technique could yield better results in succeeding training sessions.). The 1911 lasted through the class. This video was made for informational purposes.
