2013 Combat Games 1st Round 8th Dan Kendo Park vs Funatsu

The first match was between D. Park representing Korea and S. Funatsu of Japan. Park is known for his calm demeanour and supple style of kendo, whereas Funatsu's style is powerful and unforgiving. Predictably, it was Funatsu who initiated the first attacks as he aggressively assailed Parks men and kote, but it was Park who managed to score the first point with an incredible men strike. With the restart he almost scored another men utilising his superior reach. Funatsu knew he had a hell of a fight on his hands, but before he could do anything about it, Park scored another booming men strike to take the match. It's not often that Funatsu, the previous 8th Dan champion of Japan, is so comprehensively defeated in a first round match.
