2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk 4x4 - Off Road And Track Review

Off-road and track testing the 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk 4x4. This is a small crossover from Jeep, featuring a 2.4L I4 producing 180 HP which I’ll be comparing to the Honda HR-V, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and the Mazda CX-5. This also is this event’s overall winner, the Northwest Automotive Press Association’s Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year, as well as winning the CUV category. Starting with the drawbacks, the Jeep is fairly heavy, weighing just under 3600 lbs when there are certainly lighter small CUVs out there. It also has a high drag coefficient of 0.37. Combining these factors, even when matched with a 9 speed automatic transmission, fuel economy suffers as a result. With a combined rating of 24 mpg, it only tops the significantly more powerful Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Rear legroom is also limited. Drawbacks aside, the Jeep packs a lot of value. The interior is very well done, it can tow up to 2000 lbs, and it has an enormous amount of off-road features and has 8.7 inches of ground clearance. It’s strong capabilities off-road made it the crowd favorite at this year’s event. This vehicle was tested as part of the 2015 Northwest Automotive Press Association’s Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year competition.
