#902 SoulCalibur I (DC) Exclusive Hidden Characters (2/2): Cervantes playthrough.

A playthrough of the exclusive hidden character Cervantes De Leon in the Dreamcast port of Namco’s SoulCalibur I/Soul Calibur 1. Given that he was fucking dead at the end of SoulEdge/Soul Blade, Cervantes understandably didn’t return in SoulCalibur. Until the Dreamcast port here where they decided to retcon that, but whatever, he’s a great addition and makes this a worthwhile port on that basis alone, not to mention all the other amazing stuff it added. Cervantes will never return to his former glory as the big bad of the franchise, but he’ll still continue on in search of reclaiming Soul Edge. He retains one of the swords, with the other being replaced by a somewhat silly looking gun/sword hybrid. FFVIII, eat your heart out I guess. This playthrough was…weird, to say the least. Cervantes’ model kept disappearing for some reason, and I kept getting hit by kick attacks which were nowhere close to me. Still, it came out as a pretty decent playthrough, because in terms of gameplay Cervantes is just brilliant. He regains many of his moves from Soul Blade, including that wonderful qcb+B psycho crusher type move, which of course lands me in a few ring outs as you might expect. He has some nice unblockable attacks, and also this pretty bad ass move which I would have expected from Taki, where he launches the opponent into the air with his sword, teleports above them and then slams them onto the ground. His whole moveset is pretty badass, and just generally extremely competent. A fantastic addition to the game, if bordering on broken a little at times. Well, that finally completes the fantastic SoulCalibur I. Next up, we move onto the also much-beloved sequel of this game.
