Not quite the best of times, but better times for Japan's economy as business sentiment turns positive for the first time since 2011. The picture isn't so bright in China, where the latest PMI survey has produced some disappointing results. Also, the head of one of Ireland's failed banks apologises after a recording of him laughing about the state of the lender's finances is leaked. It's the first day in a big job for Mark Carney, who takes over as Governor of the Bank of England.
