A Wooly Saga -- The Washing Yarn Bit

Ermmm here's a video... Perhaps a bit of explanation: this is the way I finish off the handspun yarn I've made... I'm no expert but I've got a good reference book (Spin-Dye-Stitch: How to Create Your Own Yarns by Jennifer Claydon) and I learned how to do this from there. This video just shows me washing skeins of yarn in warm water and soap, then rinsing it out. This sets the twist in the yarn, meaning that over-twisted sections (these show up as really tight curly bits in the yarn) will relax a bit. I try not to agitate the water a lot because there's merino wool in the yarn, and wool can felt (the fibers stick together) if you move it about too much in hot water (and then I'd just have a nice blob of yarny stuff... rather than useable yarn). I then hang it up with some weights attached which will also help to straighten the yarn (compare the curly mass at the beginning to the skeins at the end). Finally when it's dry (I left it hanging overnight), I twisted the skeins in half for storage. Then comes creating a centre-pull ball out of the skein--a good way to control your yarn while knitting. And then I started knitting a swatch to determine the inch to number of stitches ratio for this yarn on a particular size of needles. As usual.... when Freya (the cat) sees something soft and fuzzy she tries to sleep on it... so I've had a little "helper" throughout this process as well. I hope you liked it!! Thanks for watching!! Feel free to ask questions!!
