BJP's senior leader Rajendra Arlekar says the CAA does not stop any Muslim from acquiring citizenship of India, however, they will have to follow a different procedure to apply. He added that the said act has been implemented to support minority religions from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who face atrocities in their own countries and as such, wish to take Indian citizenship. Arlekar stressed that Muslims in these countries are not facing religious atrocities. Speaking in Prudent’s ‘Head On’, he clarified that documents like the birth certificate or Aadhar Card is enough for NRC.
