Comparison between Gopro Hero 3 Black and AIM SmartyCam HD 2.1 84 FOV (Field of view). SmartyCam connected to AIM Solo DL for instant telemetry overlays.
-Warm up lap is Picture in Picture.
-First lap is SmartyCam on the right, GoPro on the left @1:10.
-Second lap GoPro on the right, SmartyCam on the left @2:50.
-Third lap SmartyCam on the bottom, Gopro on top @4:25.
-Fourth lap GoPro on the bottom, SmartyCam on top @6:01.
-Rest of the laps are Picture in Picture starting @7:43.
Pros on GoPro:
-Better picture quality.
-Because of FOV, can see more of the inside of the car(Shifter).
-Because of FOV, can see side mirrors.
-GoPro Studio included for video editing.
-Faster Start/Boot/Re-boots
Pros on SmartyCam:
-Instant telemetry overlays.
-FOV is better for re-learning lines for future track events.
-File sizes are much smaller.
-Superior image stabilization.
-No need to worry about battery charge since it connects directly to SOLO DL
Because of the GoPro's 'pros', videos can be more exiting to watch.
While the GoPro is a great camera and has served me well, for motorsports, I find the SmartyCam vastly superior.
