This is the marine demo of AVP from 1998 by Rebellion Developments, published by Fox Interactive. I ran this on a 2004 Dell with Windows XP. You can download the demo and play it for yourself, however, it does not run well on Windows 7 or above. It does not require any version of AVP to play. You can get the link here: http://www.moddb.com/games/aliens-vs-predator/downloads/avp-marine-demo I tried to make this an experience akin to what you would see if you played this in 1998 (for instance, I use the lowest resolution setting) while also showcasing as many unique features of the demo as possible. I had to turn up the brightness though, since the standard rendering made it too dark to really see anything, but I tried to get it to match the real thing as closely as I could. Gameplay differences: Nothing major here. The pulse rifle does not jam. If you run out of ammo, you will not be able to use the pulse rifle as a melee weapon, you'll simply have the pulse rifle out but have no ability to shoot. There was one case in this run where I could briefly see through a wall. Sound differences: Marine pain/death, alien death, reloading, pulse grenade firing, facehugged, facehugger burning, lift ascending/descending, smartgun tracker on/off switch, and item pick up sound effects are all different. Jumping and making a landing impact make no sound. On an interesting note, some of the marine's pain sound effects were taken directly from Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator game for the Atari Jaguar (1994). Playing this level I realized that the difficulty of the demos is Director's Cut (hard difficulty). The aliens at the end of the level (by the dropship) only appear in Director's Cut, and you take a lot of armor damage from acid, and there's a ton of aliens (no other enemies other than facehuggers, though). I died a number of times as all three species. That's partly due to the actual computer on which I'm playing, which isn't up to date.
