The Allegheny Valley Railroad operates in its namesake valley around Pittsburgh, with one of its lines coming down along the Monongahela on CSX-owned tracks, ending in Washington, PA. These tracks are formerly the B&O Wheeling & Pittsburgh Sub. Every weekday, AVR-3 heads to Eighty-Four and/or Washington, and comes back later in the day. All these videos are of the train returning. Here's what you'll see:
Former KCS GP40-3s, ex-Illinois Central GP11s, and loud RS5Ts!
In the 1st to 4th clips, we see GP11 #2007 pulling a load of coil cars with GP11 #2005 running dead on the back. The train is getting going again in the third clip after the crew stops for lunch.
In the 5th clip, we see 2007 and, again 2005 on the rear. notice that 2007's horn sounds noticeably higher-pitched than in the first four clips from just a couple weeks before.
In the 6th and 7th clips, we have GP40-3 #4001 pulling a shortish load with GP40-2 #4002 on the rear. If you've watched these two videos of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPAVIz42-O4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aWphCj9TQ0 , you'll see 4001's horn has changed a bit since July.
In the 8th clip, we have a rare sighting of SD40-2R's #3002 and #3001. These are just ex-KCS SD45-2's with smaller engines. 2005 is turned on the back. Quite a nice horn with 3002, too! (This is only rare for these engines to wander outside of their normal area, which is around Pittsburgh).
In the 9th and 10th clip, we have 4002 with 2007 bringing up the rear.
In clips 11-14, we have 4001 and 4002 crossing Thomas-Eighty Four road and pulling hard into the Frac Tech/International Paper depot, and stopping for lunch at another place further down the line.
In clip 15, GP11s #2004 and #2005, running long-hood forward, have a close call with a stupid driver. He was about five seconds from death. GP40-2 #4004 brings up the rear.
In the 16th, clip 2005, 4004, and 2007 work hard to bring a load of cars up the hill and into Eighty-Four.
GP11s 2008 and 2005 break the constant chirping of crickets in clips 17-18.
In clip 19, we see 4004 work hard to bring a long train (long at least for AVR), with 4002 lazily clicking away on the back.
In the 20th clip, 2008 run long-hood forward with 2005 running on the back.
in our last clip, we see 2005 have another close call with a driver. 2008 brings up the rear.
