On August 14th, 2012, the 1st Marine Division Band was honored to perform at the Congressional Gold Medal Award Ceremony for the Montford Point Marines on Camp Pendleton. Their name refers to the segregated training they received in the 1940s.
Their first pre-ceremonial piece was titled "America" by John Cacavas.
