ASCENT or Amputee Screening through Cellphone Networking is a mobile application for data collection and storage of amputee profiles in the Philippines, developed by Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and Ateneo Java Wireless Competency Center in consultation with the Physicians for Peace (PfP)-Philippines. The ASCENT app allows users to key in patient information, ambulation status, associated illnesses, functional deficits, etiology, and stump level, and take photos of the amputations for the reference of the doctors. Through the Internet, these profiles can be sent to a website that select PfP personnel can access real-time to evaluate and identify patients who are fit and ready for prosthesis. ASCENT was launched in 2009 as Smart's support to PfP's Walking Free Program which has been serving indigent amputees nationwide through screening and prosthesis service missions, and by making prosthesis more affordable to the beneficiaries. Initially developed for Java phones, ASCENT is available for download at the Google Play Store for free.
