Victor Company of Japan recording No. 52351-A. English translation of song title: "You Will Find Happiness Beyond the Mountainside." As described in Wikipedia, Ryūkōka (流行歌) is a Japanese word that means "popular song." As Japan underwent a rapid modernization program during the early decades of the twentieth century, the popular music enjoyed by its citizens reflected that transformation as well. By the start of the Great Depression, Japanese pop music had begun to merge elements of classical and Western music with Japanese folk melodies and indigenous musical instruments such as the shamisen, koto, and shakuhachi. http://bit.ly/1nwssYh The fact that several Japanese characters displayed on the Victor record label are no longer in use lends speculation that this song by Masao Fujiwara (正雄ふじわら) was recorded sometime between 1926 and 1929, at the end of the Taishō or start of the Shōwa era. The musical accompaniment heard on this track also seemed to differ from the typical ryūkōka songs of the 1930s. Even so, the number assigned to this Victor Japan recording offers evidence that the disc was actually produced and sold to the public in 1932.
