Anthracnose Fungus On Agave Plants In Arizona

Anthracnose or Black Dot disease is caused by a fungal infection, which only occurs during long, moist weather periods and it is a well known problem on some other common food crops. This is the first time that we have ever noticed this on our plants. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAUSED BY: Long periods of cool and moist weather. Proximity of old, dead materiel and close spacing of live plants. Splashing water, from a sprinkler or rain drops, from heaven. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTROL METHODS: Remove or trim back all of the old, dead or infected leaves. Water with a drip line or flood the beds, with a hose bubbler. Severe outbreaks can be controlled with a garden Fungicide. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please inform me if I left anything out or if you have any more information to add.
