Assassin’s Creed: Unity was released with some terrible bugs, but it was also released with a sweet collectible. McFarlane Toys made the Assassin’s Creed: Unity Phantom Blade, a toy replica of the Phantom Blade used in the game. You can find it for $59.99 online, and I’ve even spotted it at GameStops.
I also used it to slay Geek’s formerly fearless leader, Sal.
This is a very detailed plastic and rubber version of the Phantom Blade. It comes in two parts: the blade-shooting component and the bracer cover. The blade part attaches to your wrist with two velcro strips, and the bracer slides on top with additional velcro strips. None of the velcro is visible when it’s completely on your arm, and the rubber bracer even looks like brown leather.
The plastic blade pushes down into the device and springs out when you tap the button on the bottom. You can’t magically summon it regardless of hand position like real assassins can, but you can tap it against your side in just the right way to make the blade come out. It’s spring-loaded, but the textured plastic of the device is molded to look like it uses gears. But no, it’s not steampunk. Just because something has gears does not make it steampunk. People used gears before fictional Victorian England!
