Awesome Oahu Beaches

March Break, 2014; the Derksen family headed to Oahu to hang out with Jodi and Lauren Shaw for the first time since one of my great friends, Pat Shaw, passed away last summer. Here is the first of the highlight reels--we hit the beaches. Because I teach video and film production I like to test out cameras; on family vacations the smaller, more versatile the camera the better. This reel was shot on a Pentax WG-II, a GoPro Black Edition (2.7 K for higher frame rate) and a Nikon D5200 DSLR. The difference in quality between cameras is pretty evident. By far the GoPro provided the best slow-mo, balanced colour and video clarity.... But for the price the Pentax is hugely adaptable and tough-as-nails....
