Dialogism and the Individual: A Cultural Analysis of the Formation of Discourse and Intersubjective Identity This thesis examines the relationship between individual identity constructions and social discourse by exploring how meaning in language evolves as individuals interact. Language pre-exists and influences every individual, yet individuals actions in present moments continue to shape and determine language. A comparative analysis of a short story by Milan Kundera and the pop figure Lady Gaga applies Mikhail Bakhtins theory of dialogism in order to extend his ideas to the formation of intersubjective identity constructions.
