BANGKOK - How to have a GREAT time TRAVELING to Bangkok, Thailand.
I have wanted to go to Bangkok for the past couple of years, but have always dreaded the long 20 plus hour flight. However, I found that the trip is most definitely worth the long flight.
Bangkok seems to be a city that always offers something to do and it is extremely populated, but never seems too crowded to enjoy yourself. From my experience it was easy to use the public transportation. In other countries that I have been to, when using the public transit, at times, I would have to wait in line for the metro or subway to come three or more times before I could get on because there either was a shortage of trains or just too many people who needed to use them. In Bangkok, I never had that problem. Don't get me wrong, many times you have to stand because all of the seats are taken, but that is okay, the seats should always be offered to the elderly or people who truly need them.
On my stay in Bangkok I did not see any crime and most everyone seemed to be extremely friendly and very helpful if you asked them a question.
For some reason it seems like nothing opened until about 10am. I am not sure if it was the area I was living in or if that is just the culture in Bangkok. But it was difficult to get something to drink or eat before 10 in the morning. There are 24 hour coffee shops and 7-11s all over the place, but I found it difficult to find good restaurants that were open before 10am. On the flip side, businesses seems to stay open very late - every night of the week.
It may be common knowledge, but I was able to go to the Grand Palace Temple using the 15 bus for free. I was told that it costs 6 or 7 baht, but the day I went they were not charging. So if you can deal with sitting on a hot bus you will save some money but not taking a taxi or ferry and jumping on the red 15 bus.
Speaking of Taxis - I found they were pretty legit, however, in certain areas, most notably the night club areas, after a certain time in the night they turn off their meters and charge a flat fee that is two to three times what the meter fee is. And if you tell the taxi you are not interested in using the service because of the flat fee and walk away, you will run into the exact same problem with the next taxi. There is definitely price fixing in the taxi industry.
Overall, I had a great trip. I hope to put up another video of the Temples in Bangkok - which are amazing.
Thanks for watching.
