As usual, the Empire has several walkers and wants to destroy the shield generator. Rebel transports are also targets for destruction. As an Imperial pilot, you can fly in space more freely, without the risk of being destroyed by autoturrets. There have been times, though, when I've been told I'm "leaving the battle" in areas that seem like they ought to be within the boundaries.
