Downsize to the Mini Onslaught 746 for more portability. Its big brother the Onslaught 741, just like your girlfriend in high school, is big, bold, and a bit intimidating. I still love it and after much use its still in my good graces as a big ole folding tactical blade. But at 6.8 oz and with a 4.3" blade it might be a bit much for your locality and/or POU. Enter the the 746 Mini Onslaught. Inheriting the graceful Bob Lum sweeping blade with outstanding belly, the 746 makes a stand at 3.8 oz with its 3.45" blade length. Although not a lightweight in the world of EDCs, this smaller version is a cinch for daily carry and steps up to your utility and food prep tasks with ease. Its primary POU as I see it is of course an EDC blade. Its precise tip lends itself to precise operations and it can pierce with ease. Lack of high end traction might limit its use in the tactical role however unless you help rectify its absence (shown). The matte finished G10 handle scales are handsome, providing good traction in wet conditions, and their mostly ergonomic. Jimping is sadly missing again in this Onslaught as well, probably a Lum nod to cleaner lines. Deployment speed and lockup with the Axis lock are superb, no flaws noted. The knife has several nods to ambi use with its deployment hole and Axis use. Notable are the huge stop pin, the thick milled-out 420J SS liners, and overall toughness of the Axis lock mechanism. Out of box the Mini Onslaught arrived in near perfect sharpness, a typical BM attribute again. The clip on these Onslaughts remains too prominent and perhaps a bit too flashy with its bright chrome finish. It begs a DuraCoat (to be done!). The 746 carries tip up (good thing) and hopefully you like its clip position...because it's staying right there. Carrying the Mini Onslaught is easier that I would have thought; it's not overly bulkiy and just enough protrudes from the pocket for quick extraction. Value is good for quality delivered and the finishing on the Onslaught again makes for good collecting and knife fondling as well. With flowing lines and elegant Bob Lum design, the Mini Onslaught has the makings of another Benchmade classic.//////////////////////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9 out of 10///////////www.cutleryshoppe.com Use code nutnfancy for free shipping OR BM25 for 25% off!
