Bermukha / ბერმუხა - Bermukha / The Old Oak (1974)

The theme of creation of Soviet Rock music is very difficult, complex and tangled. But the first beginnings of Rock music in USSR, were appeared in Caucasus, far away from Moscow. Due to historical and social reasons, Georgian musicians differs from others by comparatively free creation spirit, thirst for Eastern culture and music, love for their own national, musical heritage, denying of totalitarian pressure and spiritual bravery. So, it is possible to say that one of the first Rock bands in Soviet Union (quite possible the first one) was created in 1965, in town Rustavi, Georgia. This band was established by prominent Georgian guitarist virtuoso Bachi Kitiashvili. Initially this band played covers of Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, but later, they created their own original material, based on classic Rock, rhythm and blues, jazz and hard rock together with national, Georgian folk motives. In 1974 the band Bermukha recorded an album on a magnetic tape, in an underground conditions. This album was spread among Georgian Rock music lovers. The band`s each performance was against totalitarian regime, so Bachi Kitiashvili called his band as “The Band Of Dissidents”. Unfortunately, this album in it`s original form was lost, so here is the bootlegs of Bermukha band, made in different time, and joined as in original album. The influence of this band on social culture was so huge, that prominent Georgian artist Martin Ashkhatoev made an artwork devoted to Bachi Kitiashvili and his band, and called it as “Legend”. Georgian metalheads call Bachi Kitiashvili as the father or patriarch of Georgian Rock music. Unfortunately Bachi Kitiashvili passed his way in April 2016, after battling long and serious illness. 1.
