Big Stone Gap

My drive through town- specifically the Cadet section of town. (Pronounced “Cay-det”for us northerners). Not anything extraordinary or exciting but I wanted to remember my trip. I had pictures of my mawmaw and family on Dawson Rd. I filled the rest with family photos. I cherish this town, hearing so many stories of it growing up. ? How amazing to have the mountains as ur backyard! My mawmaw and pawpaw met at Carmine’s in 1947. (Now a visitor center). My family were members and attended Cadet Primitive Baptist Church. Grandparents were Coal Miners. Working at Stonega. My pawpaw was later employed by the Interstate Railroad in Andover 1947-1953 My great grandfather, Wheeler Dalton, travelled to Dayton Ohio for work at Inland and wrote back about work. After my pawpaw was laid off at the railroad, my family moved to Dayton. Song is by Carl Martin “Farewell to you Baby.” He was born in BSG in 1906 and actually lived in Richmond district in 1910, same as my great grandparents. He died in 1979 in Michigan.
