Diandra Soares, Bipasha Basu, Dino Morea and Rahul Dev among other current day celebrities and on screen regulars during their initial modelling days at Lakme India Fashion Week 2000 for Manoviraj Khosla.
LAKME INDIA FASHION WEEK (LIFW) was a high-profile spectacle, much like any international "Fashion Week", where the very best of the entire Indian fashion industry was presented to a focused target audience. The first-ever LIFW, held in New Delhi from August 17-23, 2000, was an outright success in all areas. The event enjoyed unprecedented media coverage - international and domestic, print and electronic, all languages, and cutting across fashion, lifestyle, glamour, marketing, corporate, business and general interest media segments. Over 300 media professionals were accredited, consisting of newspaper, magazine, television and website journalists, photographers and television crews. For the first time in India, the event helped turn fashion into a serious "page-1" theme from its previously tainted "page-3" image.
LIFW was held in the Taj Palace Convention Centre. The venue contained the main showing area (stage, ramp, 590 seating capacity), an exhibition area (40 stalls exhibiting designer clothes + sponsor booths), an on-site media center, corporate hospitality lounge, the Kingfisher Kafe, two seminar/workshop rooms and the Lakme Beauty Salon.
33 designers from eight cities across the country presented their prêt lines through 24 fashion shows in one venue over 7 days to over 15,000 visitors. 36 models walked the ramp 1536 times. 26 backdrops made of plastics, metal, cloth, raxine, flowers, fibrecloth, vinyl, wood, acrylic and gravel set the ambience for the 1536 garments displayed under 400 lights. 104 music tracks ranging from Hindi film music to techno to pop and reggae set the tone for the models.
