FREE MUSIC PRODUCTION COURSES AND ARTICLES https://www.sormena.org/ In this lesson we'll explore our first foundation of sound (and music); Amplitude. We'll look at the dynamics of electronically generated signals (in this example I use a sine wave), acoustic instruments, the human voice, and full length tracks. If you couldn't figure out from the video all I really want is for you to start being aware of the amplitude envelope on all the sounds you hear. Using a tool like Bitwig, Ableton Live, Audacity, Sonic Visualizer, etc you'll be able to look at the sound's waveform which should help this process. It takes time to train your brain and ears to do this but it will greatly help you in the world of audio production. We also looked at the overall amplitude envelopes on full length commercial tracks. Next time you listen to a track try and hear how the volume changes over time (sometimes it will be tough to tell). But with some songs you'll definitely hear how volume and dynamics can add tension, excitement, sadness, etc. Please forgive my insane excitement over analyzing the Girls Generation track but I genuinely find that song really fascinating. Might be the one time in your life where you'll analyze Wagner followed by Girl's Generation, so cherish the moment. :) If you have the time, try and listen to each track after I finish discussing it and really try to listen for those changes in Amplitude.
