I spent a few hours with Bob & Tommy in the fall of 1960. We did a remote broadcast on KGER from Texas Tiny's Drive In on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, CA. Bob & Tommy and the band had played that evening at George's Roundup, a country night spot on the same highway. AT 2 a.m. the band showed up for breakfast and Bob and Tommy both participated in a radio interview, which I taped. I had prepared music on tape and questions for Tiny to ask. One question was about this song, "I Wonder If You Feel The Way I Do." Bob said that he wanted to record the song "It Makes No Difference Now," in 1938, But Producer, Art Satherly, vetoed it because it was already a hit by someone else. So Bob suggested that they could write a similar song instead. Art thought that was a great idea. Bob & Tommy stayed up that evening until it was finished and recorded it the next morning. Art liked it so much that it was shipped to New Jersey by air for processing and release. Bob fired Tommy in 1949. Joe Holley, Millard Kelso, Ocie Stockard, and Tommy Duncan formed a new band, the Western All Stars and were signed to Capitol Records. He had a hit with an old Jimmie Rodgers song that he had earlier recorded with Wills, "Gambling Polka Dot Blues." In 1955 Bob was signed to Decca records. By 1959, Bob and Tommy were working together again, however, they had to be booked separately. Joe Allison signed them both to Liberty in 1960. They had a hit with "Heart To Heart Talk." I was invited to the second Liberty recording session for the 2nd album...Mr. Words & Mr. Music. When they discussed what songs to record, I suggested, "I Wonder If You Feel The Way I Do." Bob said, "Great, I wrote it. Let's do it." It was released on LP, but the song was left out of reissues, so it's rare today. I also suggested the title for the 3 tune square dance song with calls by Tommy, "Playboy Medley." Bob liked it.
