The Prusa i3 MK3 already comes with a Bondtech dual drive extruder, so why is there an upgrade extruder from Bondtech? This community driven kit includes a 3:1 geared ratio for greater accuracy, SLS construction and a lighter pancake stepper motor to reduce mass and therefore ringing.
In this video, I take you through the specifications, preparation, disassembly and assembly of this upgrade. I also complete before and after test prints for examination.
The Max the Megapod leg was purposely printed fast to bring out print artefacts like ringing. This is the best way to compare the actual difference in print quality. If I had printed with a slower speed to begin with, before and after would have looked perfect.
Although I couldn't determine any significant improvement in print quality, I also appreciate that this is an upgrade for an already great design, therefore the potential gains are smaller. I really do appreciate the generosity of those from the community involved in the concept and design of this project
