Models of all shapes and sizes showcased an array of clothes from fashion designer Carina Cassusceli's brand 'Moda em Baixa' or 'Fashion is low' in Rio de Janeiro, Sunday, with the line focusing on apparel for women with dwarfism and short stature.
SOT, Carina Cassusceli, designer (Portuguese): "'A moda esta em Baixa' [Fashion is low] is a fashion project that sees the differences of bodies. So at our fashion shows, campaigns and performances we can see can see little women, a diversity of women, fat women, tall women, elder women, kids, fashion that has no gender. We have transsexuals, so when you see 'Moda em Baixa' you see a wide range of wonderful human beings."
SOT, Kenia Maria de Souza, model (Portuguese): "I wanted to show something, that as a woman and as someone with a deficiency, that I can take part in a fashion show and mark my presence. I think this so great."
SOT, Kenia Maria de Souza, model (Portuguese): "The point is that it boosts our self-esteem, to see that we can be part of this world, of a fashion world that people know is quite selective and chooses people for being tall and thin. So that's how we see it, and [the project] broke all the barriers, showing that it's not like that; anyone can get on the catwalk."
