BROCKTON — An unidentified Brockton man was struck and killed by a MBTA commuter train heading south about a half-mile from the Campello train station Sunday night, police said.
The man, whose name and age were not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 6:39 p.m. accident in a wooded area behind 200 Oak Hill Way in the south end of Brockton, police said.
The victim and another unidentified man had been driving around the tracks on a quad runner vehicle shortly before the accident, police said.
The men then stopped the vehicle to go to the bathroom, police said.
They got off the quad, then (the victim) climbed on the tracks and he was struck, said Brockton police Lt. Robert DiBari, who responded to the scene.
Police questioned the second man at the scene, and no charges had been filed by Sunday night.
The accident halted train operations, and the train that reportedly struck the man was stopped in Middleboro after the accident.
Calls to MBTA spokespersons Joe Pesaturo and Lydia Rivera were not immediately returned Sunday night.
The accident remains under investigation.
Responding to the accident were Brockton and state police, MBTA police, the Plymouth County Sheriffs Department, and fire engine companies 2 and 4, Squad A and Ladder 2.
