INTRODUCTION (From the manual): Ozone layer depletion. Pollution of the Oceans. Destruction of the Rain forests. The award winning TV Show CAPTAIN PLANET & THE PLANETEERS TM has turned saving the earth's environment into the ultimate adventure. Now it's your turn to go up against the most dangerous enemies our environment has ever faced - SLY SLUDGE TM, LOOTEN PLUNDER TM, DOCTOR BLIGHT TM and their evil henchmen. The PLANETEERS TM are fighting this evil and need YOUR help. REVIEW: This game is based on the Captain Planet tv-series that was broadcast from 1990 to 1996. You are playing as Captain Planet and you have to make your way through three levels and defeat the end of level bosses to complete the game. In level one the prince of pollution SLY SLUDGE is using CFC balloons and rockets to destroy the Earth's protective ozone layer. His plan is to turn the whole planet into a huge sun resort so that he can build hotels and beaches. This evil plan will ruin the earth as we know it. You have to destroy as many CFC balloons as possible, defeat SLY SLUDGE, and help WHEELER to deactivate the CFC rocket. Next level is under water where LOOTEN PLUNDER has stolen dolphins for his evil experiments. The deranged villain PLUNDER has imprisoned the dolphins and is planning to poison them with oil waste. You and GI, that you will meet at the end of the level, must set the dolphins free and destroy the barrels with their deadly contents. In the last level DOCTOR BLIGHT is setting fire to the rain forest to clear space for her plutonium mining operation. Her warped mind has come up with aero planes that drop parachute fire bombs indiscriminately. LINKA is already there helping the animals to flee but Captain Planet’s help is needed to put out the fire before it is too late. This game is from the Spectrum’s late commercial years, it is programmed by David Perry and Nick Bruty, and it shows what a Spectrum 48k can do if programmed correctly. Lots of moving objects, lots of colors, and lots of stuff moving on the screen all the time. The original game was a pure 48k production, while this re-release for the 128k has got both the original beeper soundtrack and a new one added in AY format, and the in game beeper sound fx has been changed with much better AY ones. If you find the game a bit too tough you can activate the trainer options that has been put at the beginning of the game. The game was published for ZX Spectrum 48k by Mindscape International Inc in 1991, and re-released for ZX Spectrum 128k by Goodboy/Tiboh in 2018.
