I have several Chinese Yams (Dioscorea polystachya) planted in pots and around the property in the ground. They have been relatively pest free and seem to do well in my climate. They produce a large amount of biomass at the end of the year when the vines are cut back that goes in the compost bin. Not much in the way of edible tubers after one year though.
