Early in 2007 CNBC (cable news US) asked me for an interview about The LEGO Group's business techniques and I accepted. They sent a camera crew to shoot the interview in my "work" room at home. My nervousness wasn't dropped to the cutting room floor. It was early in the morning and my coffee was still in the cup. The actual interviewer was in New York City and her little voice was impersonally squeaking at me from a cell phone. It was hard to verbalize articulately without eyes to look into.
CNBC aired a 5 part series named "The Business of Innovation" on Sunday nights. In part 3 - "New Tricks & Old Dogs" they discussed companies that ask customers what they want. They heard word that LEGO used this somewhat unorthodox business practice during NXT developement. I was part of the LEGO MINDSTORMS Developer Program (MDP) starting in 2005 and continuing with the MINDSTORMS Community Partners (MCP) thru 2014.
