COL (R) Walter Marm - 2015 Living Legend Awardee

Retired Colonel Walter Marm is a native of the Pittsburgh area and served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. He received the Living Legend Award for his unwavering service to our Nation and its Army. He joined the Army in 1964 and deployed to Vietnam as a Platoon leader in the 7th Cavalry in September 1965. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty during the Battle of Ia Drang in November of 1965. After recovering from wounds sustained during the battle, he requested to return to Vietnam and served a second tour in 1969. The story of the battle and his unit’s actions in it were portrayed in the book and movie We Were Soldiers.
