Connecting iOS to your laptop with no WiFi (ad hoc)

Use ANY IP address EXCEPT for the actual IP and a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0. All other fields should be left blank. iOS and ad hoc networks can be stubborn. Here is a method that I have gotten to work between my MacBook (OSX 10.8.4) and my iPhone (iOS 6.1.3). I have cellular data turned off, so it demonstrates no network connections of any kind other than from the laptop to iOS. Please comment with questions or suggestions. Also subscribe!
