This is because they appear only on every other frame to reduce lag in 2 player. - The deaths in stage 3 are intentional. If only one player is alive when climbing the wall, we save around 15 seconds of lag. - The deaths in stage 2 and 4 are not intentional, but end up not costing us any time at all.
