On 11 September 2016, my (then 88 year old) mother lost both her legs due to above-knee amputations, without which she would've died, after gangrene had set in as a result of insufficient blood supply. It was a big operation and we feared that she may not make it, due to the fact that she also has a heart condition. But, by the grace of God, she survived, and is now determined to make the best of her situation, and hopes to encourage other amputees to be as self-sufficient as possible, despite their age. In a few short videos she'd like to demonstrate how she manages to accomplish small, everyday tasks which became a huge challenge when she lost her legs.
I'm proud to share this video of my mother, done on 28 October 2016, six weeks after the operation. In this video she wants to show the movements that she finds helpful, when moving between her easy chair and her wheelchair, the two being different heights. She also emphasizes the importance of securing the wheelchair's brakes.
