DANCE + MOVE // Nude Body Art // Swara Dance

Over the years, I have suffered through body shaming and body image issues, and frankly I still do, to some level we all do. Three years back, I started the process of confronting this issue, the process of accepting and owning my body in its original shape and form. For my Body Image thesis at school, I spent an entire year studying every aspect of my body by creating a similar, slightly different piece of art. At the end of the year I couldn't even look at it, I tore it apart, shredded it in to pieces, broke down and sobbed on the floor. Last month I gathered the courage again to challenge myself and face my fears, be able to see my body's message through art. This is not about nudity, not about "showing off", it is a story of acceptance and freedom.
