In this season, the amount of rainfall can go over 100cm. Generally ponds, fields, roads, are filled in rain water. This condition effects human life. Snake is one of wild animals who are also affected by monsoon. Snakes live in field, beside pond, and in forest. When rain water fills ponds, fields and forests, then snakes become homeless. In this situation snakes come into the human house to find dry place to take saltier, because snake don’t like to live in water, only water snakes are live in water. When human and snakes live in close distance, then situation become dangerous, because chances of snake encounter by human increase highly. In this season over 20,000 venomous snake bites occur on average in India. Most of these cases result is death. because snake bitten person need quick medical treatment with AVS (Snake Venom Anti-serum). But the condition of rural communication system becomes very poor due to heavy rain fall and transporting a patient to hospital takes long time. So most of the patients are die on the road. Although, snake bite patients need to go to hospital within 3 hours, otherwise it can be lethal. Most of the snake bitten person go to shaman or snake charmers house for treatment, it means time loss. Every minute is important for snake bitten people. There is no magical power in the trick of shaman or snake charmer’s tree root to save life of snake bite patients. Only AVS can save snake bite patients life, which is available in every Govt. hospital. So the question is, how do we avoid snake bite in monsoon? It is simple; we need to clear up our surroundings. So that snakes can’t hide under pile of bricks, garbage, bushes etc. We also need to spade bleaching powder around the house. Snakes like common krait generally enter people’s bed in night time, so it is very impotent that we use mosquito net for protection. Also we need more ambulances in rural area to take the patients to the nearest health center or hospital as soon as possible.
