This song, Darlin' Cora (A.K.A. "Darlin' Corey") is well over a hundred years old, and is known in many widely diverse versions. I worked out something resembling this version a couple of years ago, drawing on bits and pieces of lyrics from a wide variety of sources, and stitching them together with some original lines of my own into something that approaches being a coherent story. The banjo part derives, to some extent, from B.F. Shelton's classic recording from the 1920s, but is very far from being a straightforward imitation of what he played. This new rendering is something of an evolution of my earlier way of treating this song, in a different tuning, with a banjo part that is a little more delicate and complex (and a little further still from B.F. Shelton's version), with a few changed lyrics, and with a vocal part that is less strident than before. It's played, clawhammer style, on a Jason Romero Banjo, tuned eAEAE, but with a capo at the 3rd fret, turning the tuning into eCGCG. Recorded on 17 March 2018.
