Election results in France, Greece and Germany put citizens' choice on a collision course with the economic prescription for austerity. In Canada, the massive strike by Quebec students suggests some Canadians might also flex their democratic muscles and challenge austerity measures. What does it mean for democracy and economics when societies can't live beyond their means, but don't like the proposals on offer?
